Why does secondary addiction happen

Secondary addiction develop in individuals due to the following reasons:
  1. individuals search for pleasure and try to recreate a type of high/euphoric moments.
  2. people are trying to distract themselves from discomfort or emotional pain.

How to prevent developing from secondary addiction?

These secondary addictions arises because of a need to escape but if we have effective tools for dealing with life, this desire to escape will be much less of an issue.

It can be helpful for individuals to maintain a journal after his or her treatment and rehabilitation program to recognize clues of activities or emotions that could trigger craving for substances or prompt them to compulsively engage in a behavior.
If individuals in recovery pay attention to their secondary addictions they may find clues that further enhance personal growth and emotional health.
